Waters Beavers
Last year there was a 35th anniversary vote for a family to be re-released. I had been voting every day for the Tanuki family but half way though they revealed the order and it was clear that the Tanukis were not in for a chance. The Waters beavers were near the top though so I switched my vote to beavers. In the end they came second but they announced, rather than just the top family, they would re-release the top three. I've been waiting ever since to find out if they would be released exactly as they originally were, or slightly different. I was really pleased to see they were different but they had stuck with similar coloured clothes to the originals (with the exception of the brother who was originally in red and green). With the originals being one of my favourite families, I knew I wanted the new version too. They came out recently in Japan and my plan was to wait and see if they were released in the UK later. However, Martha bought them for me as a surprise and was very excited when I unexpected parcel arrived from Japan.
It took me a while to work out what to call them. I thought about names connected to rivers or waterways but nothing was really coming to mind. In the end I was inspired by a set of books I was reading at the time they arrived; Heidi, Heidi Grows Up and Heidi's Children. These were some of my favourite books as a child which seemed to fit with the beavers being one of my favourite families.
